SURFACE WATER TREATMENT TECHNIQUE

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) sets minimum water quality standards for public drinking water.  These standards include enforceable treatment technique requirements for drinking water.  Inadequately treated water may contain disease-causing organisms.  These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches.

The East Cedar Creek FWSD Brookshire WTP, PWS ID TX1070167, failed to meet the minimum treatment technique requirements for the month of February 2021. Specifically, our water system had More than 5% of the combined filter effluent turbidity readings above 0.3 NTU for the month, Combined filter effluent turbidity readings above 1.0 NTU, Low disinfection contact time for more than four consecutive hours, Low disinfectant (Total Chlorine) residual entering the distribution system for more than four hours.

On February 16, 2021, a Boil Water Notice was issued by East Cedar Creek FWSD for PWS TX1070167 after a loss of power and the plant froze.  After power was restored, staff worked day and night to restore pressure throughout the distribution system, repaired and thawed chemical supply lines in the plant, flushed the system, and returned to normal operating conditions. The Boil Water Notice was rescinded on March 1, 2021.

Please share this information with all people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (i.e., people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

Boil Water Notice for Community Public Water Systems

 February 16, 2021

Due to a power outage that caused reduced distribution pressure, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the East Cedar Creek FWSD Brookshire public water system PWS# 1070167 to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions).

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.

Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.
